----- MARRIAGE -----
Ferguson—Dickson
A very pretty wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Ferguson, Cedarville, on Wednesday, July 4, 1945, when their only daughter, Velma Grace Ferguson, became the bride of Carman John Dickson, son of Mr. John Dickson, and the late Mrs. Dickson, of Orchardville. Rev. G. Harris officiated and Miss Mary Gillies played the wedding music.
The lovely bride, who was given in marriage by her father, was charming attired in a floor-length gown of embroidered marquisette, with sweetheart neckline, and full sleeves ening in points over the hands. Her shoulder-length veil of white net was completed halo fashion with tiny flowers. She carried red roses and ferns. The bride’s attendant was the groom’s sister, Miss Ilyene Dickson, wearing a floor-length gown of pale blue sheer with shirred bodice and long, full sleeves, and matching headdress. Her flowers were bronze roses and ferns. Little Miss Bonnie Rahn, niece of the groom, was flower girl in a dainty floor-length frock of pink dotted swiss voile. She wore tiny pink roses in her hair and carried a nosegay of shaded pink roses. Mr. Louis Ferguson, brother of the bride, acted as groomsman.
The ceremony was performed in the living-room before tall standards of ferns, peonies and Canterbury bells; under an arch of white bells and pink and white streamers.
Following the ceremony a wedding dinner was served to sixty guests by five cousins of the bride, Misses Ilene Smith, Mona Morrison, Ina Ellis, Inez McEachern and Margaret McFarlane. The bride’s table, set with the bride’s silver was centred with the bride’s cake, in pink, white and silver, flanked by white candles.
The bride’s mother received in a two piece shirred mauve crepe and corsage of bronze roses. Assisting her was the groom’s sister, Mrs. Eldon Rahn, in a two piece lime dress and corsage of pink roses.
That evening a reception was held in Conn Hall when about 250 guests were present. The feted couple were the recipients of many lovely gifts.
Later the bride and groom left for southern points, Oshawa, Toronto, by boat to Port Dalhousie and Buffalo, and to Niagara. The bride traveled in a brown gabardine suit with lime green and brown accessories.
On their return they will reside on the groom’s farm at Orchardville. Mount Forest Confederate, July 19, 1945.
