Archibald McLean
May 12, 1833 ~ November 5, 1906
Mr. Archibald McLean, a well-known farmer from near Monck, came to Grand Valley Monday morning, transacted considerable business, and had his horse brought to the hotel door about 5 o’clock in the afternoon to start home, when he suddenly collapsed on the street, and his spirit went on that journey that knows no return. He was standing on the ground at the buggy wheels, and had just finished filling his pipe, when he fell backwards and breathed only a few times. A doctor was on hand quickly, but he was past all human aid. The body was taken to Stoddart’s undertaking rooms, and the family notified. The funeral takes place to-day (Thursday) to Arthur cemetery.
The late Mr. McLean, was a well-to-do farmer, and a keen shrewd business man. In politics he was a staunch follower of Sir Wilfred Laurier, and in religion a member of the Baptist church.
About thirty-four years ago he left Erin township where he lived for some time, and went up to Muskoka, when the free land grants were given, remaining there eighteen years. He then moved to West Luther where he has lived since.
The following survive: Mrs. Charles (Mary) McArthur of Amaranth; Mrs. John (Margaret) Switzer of Monck; Mrs. Peter McDonald of Mimosa; Neil, John, Daniel, Alexander and William of Conn; and Archie at Fort William. Grand Valley Star & Vidette, Nov. 8, 1906.
