James Allan Perry Samuel (1917 ~ 1992)
5.8.1.2. First child of Martha E. Adams and Walter G. Samuel, James Allan Perry Samuel, was born March 6, 1917, in W. Luther Twp., Wellington Co., Ontario.
He married Velma Luella Pearson, daughter of Oliver Gordon Pearson and Mary Mercella Reid, January 2, 1943, in Dundalk, Proton Twp., Grey Co., Ontario.
J. Allan P. Samuel died December 28, 1992, aged 75 years in Guelph, Ontario, and Velma L. Pearson Samuel Hill died July 14, 2011, aged 93 years in Collingwood, Ontario and are interred at Greenfield Cemetery, Arthur, Ontario.

Prettily decorated with baskets of pink snapdragons and evergreens, pink and white streamers and a wedding bell, the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Pearson, near Dundalk, formed the setting on Saturday afternoon, January 2, 1943, for the wedding of their younger daughter, Velma Luella, to Pte. James Allan Perry Samuel, Prince George, B.C., son of Mrs. [Martha] Samuel and the late Walter Samuel of Mount Forest. Rev. M. G. Butler of Dundalk United Church performed the ceremony.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride was attired in a gown of white satin, with sweetheart neckline, tight-fitting bodice and full skirt, and was adorned with her mother’s locket and bracelet. She wore a floor-length veil and a halo headdress with orange blossoms. Her sister, Mrs. Edward Hufnagel of Acton, was matron of honor, wearing heaven’s blue sheer with shirred bodice and full skirt. She had a matching finger-tip veil, caught with flowers and carried pink roses and pink ‘mums. Miss Alvena McLean, of Ayton, niece of the groom, was junior bridesmaid, was attired in azure blue taffeta, with tight bodice and full skirt with matching headdress. She carried a nosegay of white and rose ‘mums. Mr. Edward Hufnagel, Acton, was groomsman. The wedding music was supplied by Miss Nellie Gardiner of Dundalk, who also sang.
At a reception following the ceremony, Mrs. Pearson, the bride’s mother, wore air force blue with matching accessories and corsage of pink roses. Assisting were the groom’s mother, wearing royal blue with matching accessories and a corsage of bronze ‘mums, and the groom’s grandmother, wearing black crepe with corsage of mauve ‘mums.
The bride and groom led the way to the dining room, the bride’s table, decorated in pink and white, was centred by a three-tiered wedding cake. Friends of the bride served a buffet lunch to the guests, who numbered about sixty.
The couple left on a wedding trip to Guelph, Mount Forest and other points, the bride travelling in a turquoise wool frock and moss green coat with wine accessories. They will reside at Prince George, B.C.
Previous to her wedding the bride-to-be was entertained at a miscellaneous shower at the home of Mrs. Lorne Yungblut, Acton, when she was made the recipient of a number of lovely gifts by her Acton friends. J. Allan Perry Samuel
Allan Perry Samuel died in Guelph, after a courageous struggle with a stroke, on December 28, 1992. He was in his 75th year.
Allan Perry Samuel, beloved husband of Velma Pearson, died of a heart failure. He was born March 6, 1917 to the late Walter Samuel and Martha Adams on Con. 8, Lot 11, West Luther. After the death of his father he helped local farmers and later worked in Brampton and Guelph.
On January 2, 1943 he married Velma Pearson and they went to Prince George, B.C., where Allen was stationed with Oxford Rifles. They returned to the home farm later that year and resided there until moving to Mount Forest in 1974.
After working for Dunken Construction in Kitchener, Allen started his own company in 1967. When he retired in 1985 he drove for several years for the Family and Children’s Services of Guelph.
He was a member of the Arthur Legion.
Funeral services were conducted on December 31, 1992, at Hendrick Funeral Home, by Pastor Steven Griffin of Monck Baptist Church. Spring interment in Greenfield Cemetery, Arthur. Mount Forest Confederate, Feb. 3, 1993.
Velma L. Pearson Samuel Hill
December 14, 1917 ~ July 14, 2011
Velma Luella Hill passed away in the General and Marine Hospital, Collingwood on Thursday, July 14, 2011.
Velma (Pearson), raised and schooled in Dundalk, passed away peacefully in her 94th year.
Velma was a schoolteacher for many years, teaching in the West Luther and Cones-toga areas.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Allan Perry Samuel. They farmed near Monck, later moving to Mount Forest.
On her 85th birthday she married childhood sweetheart Oscar Hill and moved to Collingwood.
She is survived by Oscar, his children Jim and John Hill, Judy Stephen and families and by Velma’s nephew Gordon Hufnagel and family.
Rested at the McMillan & Jack Funeral Home, Dundalk.
Visitation was held on Saturday from 11:30 to 1 p.m.
Complete funeral service was held in the chapel on Saturday, July 16 at 1 p.m.
Interment Arthur Cemetery.

O. Gordon Pearson
November 5, 1885 ~ December 27, 1978
Gordon, of Dundalk, passed away in Shelburne District Hospital on Wednesday, December 27, 1978. Gordon Pearson in his 94th year. Beloved husband of Mary Reid and dear father of Mercella Reid (Mrs. Ed Hufnagel) of Alliston and Velma (Mrs. Allan Samuel) of Mount Forest. One grandson, Gordon Hufnagel of Burlington. Predeceased by five brothers and two sisters. Resting at the McMillan and Jack Funeral Home, Dundalk for a funeral service in the chapel on Saturday, December 30, 1978 at 2 p.m. Temporary interment in Dundalk Mortuary Chapel, with Spring interment in Dundalk Cemetery.
Mary M. Reid Pearson
July 12, 1888 ~ August 26, 1982
Mary Mercella Pearson, beloved wife of the late Gordon Pearson, passed away at Dufferin Oaks, Shelburne, on Thursday, August 26, 1982, in her 95th year.
The former Mary Reid was born July 12, 1888, at Perm, Mulmer Twp., the daughter of the late John Reid and Annie Anderson. On April 9, 1913, she was married to Gordon Pearson and moved to Dundalk. In February 1920 she, with her husband and two daughters, moved to a farm on No. 10 highway, ½ mile south of Dundalk corner, where she resided until 1961, when she and her husband retired to Dundalk. Owing to poor health she went to Dufferin Oaks in 1972.
Mrs. Pearson was much loved by all who knew her because of her sunny disposition. Even though she spent many years in a wheel chair she had a smile for everyone.
She leaves to mourn the loss of a loving mother and grandmother her two daughters, Mercella (Mrs. Ed Hufnagel) Alliston, and Velma (Mrs. Allan Samuel), Mount Forest, and one grandson, Gordon Hufnagel, Burlington. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers, namely Maude (Mrs. John Long), Ethel (Mrs. Robert Allen), Joe, Edmund and Robert Reid.
The funeral services was held at the McMillan and Jack Funeral Home, Dundalk, on Saturday, August 28 with Rev. K. T. Smits of Dundalk United Church officiating. Interment was in Dundalk Cemetery.
Flower-bearers were Mark and Katrina Gillespie of Burlington. Pall-bearers were Verral Thompson, Everett Sherson, Murray McDonald, Jack Aitken, Clinton Hurlbut and Frank Meredith.
Relatives and friends attended from Blinheim, Creemore, Terra Nova, Alliston, Mansfield, Mount Forest, Dundalk and surrounding area.
William H. Pearson
October 31, 1841 ~ June 17, 1908
William Pearson, an old and respected resident of Terra Nova, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 1908, after having been confined to his bed only five days with congestion of the lungs. Orangeville Banner, July 9, 1908.
