A pretty wedding was solemnized at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Duncan on the afternoon of June 15, 1921, when their daughter, Annie Irene, was united in marriage to Mr. Robert Adams. They were attended by Mr. Stanley Adams and Miss Anna Coutts, the ceremony preformed by Rev. Mr. Moyer in the presence of about one hundred and fifty guests. The large number of useful and costly gifts indicated the high esteem in which the bridal pair are held in the community. The happy couple left the next morning for a trip to London and other points and on their return will make their home on their farm on the centre side road of Luther township. ----- OBITUARIES -----

Robert Z. Adams

On Tuesday night of last week [June 3, 1930] the whole community was shocked to learn of the sudden death of Robert Adams, employee of Braun’s Lumber Co., Detroit, Mich.

Deceased had gone to work Tuesday morning with best of spirits and health, and about eleven o’clock, while switching two freight cars of lumber got caught between the couplings. He was rushed to the Michigan Mutual Hospital where he lived for about four hours, passing away in the presence of his wife and brother, Ed Adams. He was conscious to the very last, talking and smiling all the time although he knew the end was near. When he was hurt he handed out all his contract papers for lumber and shook hands with them and told them to be very careful how they broke the news to his wife, and to make it as easy as possible for her.

He was born in 1895 on Lot 1, Conc. 12, West Luther, and was the third son of Mr. and Mrs. James Adams. In June, 1921, he married Irene Duncan, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Duncan. They lived on their farm, Lot 10, Conc. 13, West Luther, for six years when they decided to rent the farm and move to Detroit.   He was employed by the Braun Lumber Co. of Detroit and while there had won the esteem and respect of the Company and the employees, besides a host of friends.

Another circumstance which makes his death sad was that his mother and brother George and wife and her mother, Mrs. Johnson, has started a week before on a summer’s motor trip to the Coast, camping as they went along and were unabled to be located at the time of the funeral. They have since been located near Denver, Colorado, and have turned back.

Service was held on Wednesday morning at Wrigley’s Chapel, Livernois and Fullerton Ave., Detroit, conducted by Dr. Ralph Crissman of Highland Park Presbyterian Church, pastor of deceased, before leaving for Mount Forest.

The funeral, one of the largest, was held from his late residence in West Luther on Friday, June 7, 1930, where prayer was offered by the Rev. M. R. Fraser, thence to Knox Presbyterian Church, Conn, where service was held by the Rev. Mr. Mercer of Toronto, a former pastor of deceased. Interment took place in the Mount Forest Cemetery.

Beautiful floral tributes were received from: The Braun Lumber Company; The Employees of the Company; Detroit Friends; William Neely and Family, Ingersoll; Dr. and Miss Jamieson, Brussells; Wilfred Elliott, Percy Whyte, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Rawn; Wm. W. Duncan and Family; Florence McLeod; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Blyth; Mother, Brothers and Sisters; Ladies’ Aid of Knox Presbyterian Church, Conn; Conn Women’s Institute and others.

The flower bearers were: Allan Waters, Colin Johnson, Charles Redford, Milton Moore, of Detroit; Wilfred Elliott, Mt. Forest; Percy Whyte, Holstein; Vernon Rawn, Riverview.

The pall bearers were: George Ferguson, Talbert Ferguson, Wm. D. Coutts, Gordon Coutts, Russell Greer, George Cammidge, all of West Luther and cousins of deceased.

He leaves besides his widow, his mother; four brothers, Wm. of Proton; Stanley of West Luther; George and Edwin, Detroit, Mich.; and four sisters, Mrs. Walter G. Samuel, Mrs. Stanley Herriot and Mrs. Alex Graham, West Luther; and Mrs. Andrew Morrison, of Proton. Mount Forest Confederate, June 12, 1930.
