Edwin Lewis Adams  (1902 ~ 1974)

 

5.8.8. Eighth child of James Adams and Dinah I. Perry, Edwin Lewis Adams, was born May 17, 1902, in W. Luther Twp., Wellington Co., Ontario. 

  He married Florence May McLeod, daughter of Neil McLeod and Mary Campbell, June 20, 1931, Mount Forest, Ontario and had three children:  

 

 

  Edwin L. Adams died November 28, 1974, aged 72 years and Florence M. McLeod Adams died August 21, 1986, aged 79 years in Mount Forest, Ontario, and are interred at Mount Forest Cemetery.

A pretty June wedding took place quietly at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 1931, at Westminster Church manse when the Rev. Elwood Lawson united in marriage Florence McLeod, younger daughter of Mrs. James Runciman to Mr. Edwin L. Adams, son of the late Mr. James Adams and Mrs. Adams, Conn.

  The bride wore a lovely gown of pale pink chiffon with berthe of lace and hat to match, white gloves and black shoes and carried a bouquet of roses. The bridesmaid, Miss Florence McIlvride, of Toronto, wore a pretty dress of dark blue chiffon printed with sprays of pink flowers, with hat and accessories to match, and carried a bouquet of carnations. The groom was supported by Mr. Percy Whyte. 

  After the wedding dinner served at the bride’s which was decorated with pink and white flowers the happy couple left on a motor trip to Niagara Falls and other points across the line. On their return they will reside in Mount Forest. Mount Forest Confederate, June 25, 1931.

30th Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Adams were pleasantly surprised on Sunday evening when they were guests of honor at a dinner at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Gordon Cherry and Mr. Cherry, on the occasion of the 30th wedding anniversary.

Mr. and Mrs. Adams were married in Mount Forest on June 20, 1931, by the Rev. Elwood Lawson.

  Those attending the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Cherry, Donald and Wayne, Mount Forest; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Moorhead and Philip, Kitchener; Mr. Robert Adams, Elmvale; and Miss Carol Bridle, Mount Forest. Mount Forest Confederate, June 29, 1961.

Edwin L. Adams

Edwin L. Adams passed away suddenly on Thursday, November 28, 1974, at Louise Marshall Hospital. He was 72 years of age.

  He was born in West Luther Township, the son of the late James Adams and Dinah Perry.

  In 1931 he was married to Florence McLeod and they farmed in West Luther Township until moving to Mount Forest in 1957.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Conn, where he served as a member for the Session for 24 years.

  He is survived by his wife Florence; one son, Robert of Mississauga; two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Marion) Cherry, Mount Forest and Mrs. Peter (Betty) Moorhead of St. Thomas and five grandchildren.

  He was predeceased by five brothers and four sisters.

  The funeral was held Monday, December 2 at the Hendrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Clifton officiating.

  Burial was in Mount Forest Cemetery.

  The pallbearers were Gordon Coutts, Wilbert Ferrier, John Kerr, Colin Johnson, Ian Weir and John Nicol. Mount Forest Confederate, Dec. 5, 1974.

 

Florence M. McLeod Adams

November 16, 1906 ~ August 21, 1986

Florence M. Adams died after a brief illness, on Thursday, August 21, 1986, at Louise Marshall Hospital. She was in her 80th year.

  She was born in Minto Township, the daughter of the late Neil McLeod and Mary Campbell. In 1931 she was married to Edwin L. Adams, who predeceased her in November 1974. They farmed in West Luther Township until moving to Mount Forest in 1957.

Mrs. Adams was a member of the Knox Presbyterian Church, Conn, Knox Ladies’ Aid and a life member of the Opal Rebekah Lodge No. 301. Mount Forest.

  She was the dear mother of Robert and Carol Adams of Mount Forest, Marion and Gordon Cherry of Mount Forest and Betty and Peter Moorhead of St. Thomas. She was the dear sister of Mrs. Kathleen Coutts of Mount Forest.

  She is also survived by five grandchildren, Don Cherry and his wife Brenda of Mount Forest, Wayne Cherry of Kitchener, Philip Moorhead of St. Thomas, Katherine and Stephen Adams of Mount Forest, and one great grandchild, Bradley Cherry.

  A memorial service was conducted on Friday evening by members of Opal Rebekah Lodge. The funeral service was held on Saturday, August 23 at the Hendrick Funeral Home with Rev. Donna Riseborough officiating. She was assisted by Mrs. Christine Dippel at the organ.

  Pallbearers were nephews Mac Coutts, Douglas Coutts, Jack Adams, Gordon Adams, Allan Samuel and Clarence Morrison Interment followed in Mount Forest Cemetery. Mount Forest Confederate, Aug. 27, 1986.

August 29, 1861 ~ February 27, 1909

 

Mary Ann Campbell McLeod Runciman

April 2, 1866 ~ August 23, 1939

Another of those sudden death which have so greatly shocked the community took place on Wednesday evening last, August 23, 1939, in the passing of Mary Campbell McLeod, wife of Mr. James Runciman, in her 74th year. Mrs. Runciman had been ill for a time last Spring and in hospital, but was again able to be about and improving. She had been twice down town that afternoon. Talking with her sister, Mrs. Johnson, she passed quickly away late in the evening.

  Mrs. Runciman was greatly esteemed and lived by those who knew her. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Colin Campbell, of Farewell, and was married on November 22, 1899, to Neil McLeod, of Minto, who died ten years later. On December 4, 1911, she married James Runciman, of Egremont, and lived there until they moved to Mount Forest some 22 years ago. She was a consistent member of the United Church, formerly of Westminster congregation, and a member of the Ladies’ Aid and W.M.S.

  She leaves to mourn her loss her husband, in his 88th year, and two daughters: Kathleen, Mrs. W. D. Coutts, and Florence, Mrs. Ed. Adams, both of Conn. There is also one stepson, J. Vernon Runciman, of Mount Forest; and one step-daughter, Pearl, Mrs. Frank Howard, Woodbend, Alberta. A stepson, Norman Roy, died here in May, 1918. Surviving also are a brother, Colin G. Campbell, of Edmonton, and a sister, Mrs. John Johnson, of Farewell.

  The funeral, which was private took place on Saturday afternoon with interment in the Harrison Cemetery. The Rev. Ian McEown conducted the services. The pall-bearers were Messrs. Roy Johnson, Colin Johnson, George Adams, Allan Waters, James Harper and Wm. Orchard. Mount Forest Confederate, Aug. 31, 1939.
