Elaine Diana Graham  (1933 ~ 1996)

 

5.8.9.4. Fourth child of Florence E. Adams and J. Alexander Graham, Elaine Diana Graham, was born June 11, 1933, in W. Luther Twp., Wellington Co., Ontario.

  She married Joseph Albert Robinson, son of George Robinson and Victoria Agnes Margaret Wilson, November 11, 1950, Conn, W. Luther Twp., Wellington Co., Ontario and had seven children:

  Elaine D. Graham Robinson died July 13, 1996, aged 63 years in Fergus, Ontario, and Joseph A. Robinson died July 7, 1990, aged 62 years in Mount Forest, Ontario and are interred at Mount Forest Cemetery.

On Saturday, November 11, 1950, a quiet wedding was solemnized in the Presbyterian Manse, Conn, at 2:30 p.m., when Rev. Maurice D. McNabb united in marriage Elaine Diana Graham, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex. Graham, and Joseph Albert Robinson, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. George Robinson, all of West Luther.

  The bride was attired in a street-length dress of intermission satin trimmed with white lace and matching accessories, and wore a corsage of red roses. She was attended by her sister, Elda, Mrs. Stuart Stockdale, of Brampton, in navy taffeta with white trim and black accessories, and a corsage of red roses. Mr. Stuart Stockdale was groomsman.

  After supper at the home of the bride’s parents, the happy young couple visited the bride’s 83-year-old grandmother, who, because of a fall, was unable to be at the supper, later leaving on a honeymoon trip to Niagara Falls, Buffalo, New York and other points. The bride traveled in a wine velvet suit with fur-trimmed wine coat and black accessories. On their return a reception will be held in Conn W.I. Hall on Friday evening before they leave for their new home in Guelph. Mount Forest Confederate, Nov. 16, 1950.

Elaine D. Graham Robinson

After a lengthy illness at Groves Memorial Hospital, Fergus, on July 13, 1996, Elaine Robinson, wife of the late Joseph Robinson, of Arthur and formerly of West Luther Township, passed away in her 64th year. 

  She was the dear mother of Jim, and Marilyn Robinson, Conn; Susan Robinson and Dennis Bridle, Stayner; Art and Ruth Roelofsen, Arthur Township; Stephen and David Robinson, West Luther Township; Doug and Evelyn Morrison, Arthur and Jim and Sharon Beatty, West Luther.

  Mrs. Robinson is survived by her sister Verna Bruce, Orangeville; Norma and husband Carson Rae, Georgetown, and brother-in-law Stuart Stockdale of Peterborough.

  She was the proud grandmother of Andrew, Kevin and Johnny Robinson; Chris, Melissa, Greg and Jennifer Roelofsen; Joey and Amanda Morrison and Melissa and Victoria Beatty; and great-grandmother of Cole and Courtney Roelofsen. 

  She was predeceased by her parents, Alex and Florence Graham, and a sister, Elda Stockdale.

  She will be sadly missed by family and friends. She was always ready to help anyone, whether it was babysitting her grandchildren, great-grandchildren or other children, caring for the sick or just giving a heling hand.

  She was a life-ling member of the Westcott United Church, Conn, the Mission Circle of Monck Baptist Church and, since moving to Arthur, attended the Arthur United Church regularly.

  She spent most of her life working on the farm (alongside her late husband) and caring for her family.

  In recent years she took up knitting as a hobby. She was always presenting someone with a gift of slippers or an afghan.

  Visitation was held on Monday, July 15 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Hendrick Funeral Home, Mount Forest.  Funeral service was held Tuesday, July 16 in the chapel of Hendrick Funeral Home at 2 p.m., officiated by Rev. Bruce Dickson, Arthur.

  Interment Mount Forest Cemetery.

  Flowerbearers were grandchildren Andrew, Kevin and Johnny Robinson, Melissa and Jennifer Roelofsen, Joey and Amanda Morrison and Melissa and Victoria Beatty.

Pallbearers were Chris and Greg Roelofsen, Grant Cutting, Bob Bruce, Glen Rae an Doug Beatty. Mount Forest Confederate, Aug. 14, 1996.

 

Joseph A. Robinson

May 21, 1928 ~ July 7, 1990

Joseph Albert Robinson died July 7, 1990 at Louise Marshall Hospital, Mount Forest, in his 63rd year.

  He was a lifelong resident of West Luther Township, except for a short time in the Brampton area.

  He married Elaine Diana Graham, November 11, 1950, and they had seven children, all of whom survive: Jim and his wife Marilyn of Conn; Susan of Stayner; Ruth and her husband Art Roelofsen of Arthur Township; David and Stephen at home; Evelyn and her husband Doug Morrison of Arthur; Sharon and her husband Jim Beatty of West Luther Township. He is survived by eight grandchildren, Andrew and Kevin Robinson, Christopher, Gregory and Jennifer Roelofsen, Joey Morrison, Melissa and Victoria Beatty.

Also surviving besides his wife Elaine, are brothers Harry and his wife Irene of Ceylon, Robert of East Luther Township, and sisters Ellen and her husband Ivan Alexander of Mount Forest, and Isabella Leeder of Huntsville.

  He was predeceased by his parents and brother Gordon.

  The funeral was held at Hendrick Funeral Chapel in Mount Forest with interment in Mount Forest. Rev. Norma Harder of Conn officiated.

  Pallbearers were Garnet Robinson, Ron Alexander, Ross Wilson, Alfred Wilson, Grant Cutting and Vernon Graham.

  The many floral tributes were carried by grandchildren Andrew and Kevin Robinson, Christopher, Gregory and Jennifer Roelofsen and Joey Morrison.

Lunch was served at Wescott United Church in Conn by the U.C.W. Mount Forest Confederate, July 11, 1990.

 

Stephen L. Robinson

October 28, 1960 ~ April 4, 2002

Stephen Robinson of West Luther Township (RR.1, Conn) died at University Hospital, London, on Thursday, April 4, 2002, in his 42nd year.

  Remembered by his fiancé, Debbie Brake and his stepchildren Darren and Jennifer.

  Brother of Jim and Marilyn Robinson of Conn, Susan Robinson and Dennis Bridle of Stayner, Ruth and Art Roelofsen of Arthur Township, David Robinson of West Luther Township, Evelyn Morrison of Arthur and Sharon and Jim Beatty of West Luther Township.

  Uncle to Chris and Melissa, Greg and Jacqui and Jennifer Roelofsen, Andrew, Kevin, John and Bobby Robinson, Joey and Amanda Morrison and Melissa and Victoria Beatty.

  Predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Elaine (Graham) Robinson.

  Friends called at the Hendrick Funeral Home, Mount Forest on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

  The funeral service was held in the chapel on Monday at 2 p.m.

  Interment in Mount Forest Cemetery.

George Robinson

February 28, 1894 ~ October 17, 1970

George Robinson, a well-known resident of West Luther Township, passed away at Louise Marshall Hospital, Mount Forest, on Saturday, October 17, 1970, after a lengthy illness. He was in his 77th year.

  Born at Monck in Luther Township on February 28, 1894 he was the eldest son of the late Joseph Robinson and his wife, the former Ida Mary Grieves. In February 1919 he married Victoria Wilson and since then he had farmed in Concession 2, West Luther. He was a member of Westcott United Church, Conn, and served on the Board of Session. He was a member of the Conn Orange Lodge.

  Surviving are four sons, Gordon George, Damascus; Harry Murray, Ceylon; Robert Andrew, Conn; and Joseph Albert, Monck; and two daughters, Ellen Ida, Mrs. Ivan Alexander, Conn; and Isabella Victoria, Mrs. Ron Leeder, Huntsville; also 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one sister, Emma, Mrs. Albert Harbottle, Arthur; and five brothers, David, Conn; Arthur, Monticello; Alfred, Luther Township; Alex, Penetanguishene; and Clarence, Monck. He was predeceased by his wife in July, 1966 and a grandson, Murray Robinson in October, 1969; and by one brother and four sisters, Herbert; Nellie, Mrs. James Wilson; Bertha, Mrs. George James; Minnie, Mrs. Norman Martin; and Grace, Mrs. James Wilson.

  The funeral service was held in Westcott United Church, Conn, on Monday, October 19, conducted by the Rev. T. J. Rees.  Interment was in Mount Forest Cemetery.

  The pallbearers were Gordon Wilson, Gilbert Wilson, Ross Wilson, Stuart Wilson, Birss Alexander and Ken Robinson.

  The floral tributes were carried by grandsons, Garnet Robinson, Clifford Robinson, Jim Robinson, Russell Alexander, Ron Alexander and Barry Alexander. Mount Forest Confederate, Oct. 29, 1970.

 

Victoria A. Wilson Robinson

August 1, 1897 ~ July 5, 1966

Mrs. George Robinson, a lifetime resident of West Luther Township, died suddenly at her home on Tuesday, July 5, 1966, in her 69th year.

  Mrs. Robinson, the former Victoria Agnes Margaret Wilson, was born August 1, 1897, the youngest daughter of the late Robert Wilson and Helen Hunter. She was a member of Westcott United Church, Conn and the United Church Women.  On February 6, 1919 she was married to George Robinson in the Methodist Manse, Keldon, by the Rev. McCartney.

  Besides her husband, Mrs. Robinson is survived by four sons, Gordon George, Damascus; Harry Murray, Ceylon; Robert Andrew, at home; Joseph Albert, Monck; and two daughters, Ellen Ida, Mrs. Ivan Alexander, Conn; and Isabella Victoria, Mrs. Ronald Leeder, Huntsville; also 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild.  Also surviving are six brothers, Robert, Grand Valley; Alex, Carnduff, Sask.; James, Conn; Peter and Andrew, Mount Forest and Albert, Proton Township; and three sisters: Lillian, Mrs. John Perry, Welland; Grace, Mrs. Wesley Barber, Moose Jaw, Sask.; and Sarah, Mrs. Edward Watson, Mount Forest.  She was predeceased by two brothers, William and harry and one sister, Nellie, Mrs. Charles Swill.

  The funeral service was held in Westcott United Church, Conn, conducted by Mr. Stephen Shantz. Interment was in Mount Forest Cemetery.

  The pall bearers were Messrs. Gordon Wilson, Allen Wilson, Ross Wilson, Stuart Wilson, Birss Alexander and Ken Robinson.

Joseph Robinson

October 8, 1859 ~ October 7, 1927

The death occurred on Friday evening, October 7, 1927 of Joseph Robinson at his home in West Luther Township, in his 68th year.

  Mr. Robinson was born a short distance from his old home, where he spent all his life. He was a faithful member of Monck Baptist Church for many years. He married Miss Mary Eliza Greaves in the year 1884. They had fifteen children, eleven of whom survive, seven sons and four daughters, six sons acting as pall-bearers.

  A public funeral was held in the Monck Baptist Church. The church was crowded to the doors and many were unable to get in. His pastor, Rev. Mr. Quinn, conducted the services. Many floral tributes were received indicating the esteem in which the deceased was held.—Arthur Enterprise. Mount Forest Confederate, Nov. 3, 1927.

 

Ida Mary Eliza Grieves Robinson

May 3, 1867 ~ February 14, 1934

The funeral servies of the late Mrs. Joseph Robinson were held at Monck Baptist Church, on Friday, February 23, 1934, and were attended by many friends in token of their esteem and regard for this highly respected citizen of the community.

  Rev. W. H. Chambers, pastor, officiated and six sons of the deceased acted as pallbearers, George, David, Arthur, Alex, Alfred and Herbert.

  Mrs. Robinson was Ida Mary Grieves, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grieves. Since her marriage in 1884 to Joseph Robinson, she resided on Lot 9, Con. 11. Mr. Robinson predeceased his wife in 1927.

  A large family survives, three sons on the homestead, Arthur, Alex and Clarence; George and David, of Levendale; Herbert, Fergus; Alfred, Arthur Village; Emma, Mrs. Albert Harboute, of Monck; Bertha, Mrs. George James, and Minnie, Mrs. Norman Martin, of Monticello. Nellie, the eldest daughter, and two small children predeceased their mother. Mrs. David Alexander, of Stoneywood, and Mr. George Grieves, of Monck, are sister and brother of the deceased. Andrew Robinson

April 15, 1838 ~ September 17, 1908

In West Luther, on Thursday, September 17, 1908, Andrew Robinson, aged 76 years. The funeral took place from his late residence, Lot 9, Con. 11, West Luther, on Sunday, September 20th at 1 p.m. to Greenfield Cemetery. The deceased was a native of Ireland, from whence he emigrated to Canada with his parents, when only a mere child. When a young man of about 22 years of age, be moved from Esquessing Township to West Luther, which was at that time a dense forest, with no thoroughfares but blazed trails. He was married to Isabella Henderson in 1858, also of West Luther. The deceased was a man of quiet habits and was possessed of a kindly though retiring disposition. He was a Conservative in politics and a member of the Anglican Church. He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife and six children: three daughters, Mrs. Thomas Gibson, and Mrs. E. Langdon, both of West Luther, and Mrs. Jamieson of Swan River, Manitoba, and three sons, Andrew and Joseph of West Luther and George of Duluth. Arthur Enterprise, Nov. 24, 1908.

 

Isabella Henderson Robinson

January 22, 1839 ~ February 6, 1934

The death of Mrs. Andrew Robinson occurred on Tuesday, February 6, 1934, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Langdon of Fergus. The news of her demise was learned of with regret in the Monck neighbourhood where much of her life had been spent and in Arthur where she was known to many. Her funeral took place on Thursday from the Langdon home to Greenfield cemetery. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Chambers of Monck. Six grandsons acted as pallbearers: Herbert, Alex. and Arthur Robinson, George and William Langdon and Fred Gibson.

  The deceased who was 96 years of age, and whose maiden name was Isabella Henderson was born in Ireland. When ten years of age she came with her grandmother to Canada to join her parents who had immigrated a few years previous. They made their home on Lot 9, Concession 11, West Luther, where they were among that township’s pioneers and where practically the remainder of the life of the deceased was spent. She was married to Andrew Robinson, who predeceased her about 25 years ago. In May last she went to Fergus to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Langdon. She was a woman of fine character, deeply devoted to her home and family.

  She leaves to mourn her loss three daughters, Emma, Mrs. T. Gibson of Kenilworth; Ella, Mrs. D. Jamieson, Swan River; Mary, Mrs. E. Langdon, Fergus, and one son Andrew of Monck.  Three children predeceased her, Joseph, George and Margaret, Mrs. Ziggler. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. McHardy, Harriston, and Mrs. Wilkie, Arthur. Mount Forest Confederate, Feb. 22, 1934.
