An interesting wedding was quietly celebrated at Calvary Baptist Church on Saturday, June 20, 1936, when Gladys, daughter of Mrs. Clara Johnston of Midland, and Donald, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Howard, also of Midland, were united in marriage. Rev. Wayman K. Roberts, of Brantford, a former Baptist minister here, officiated, assisted by Rev. L. A. Duce, the present minister.
The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr. Ira Hill, wore a beautiful wedding gown of white lace and a picture hat, with accessories to match, and carried a bouquet of pink roses and baby’s breath. She was attended by Miss Naomi Laidlaw as bridesmaid, wearing a gown of pink flowered chiffon. Her flowers were the same as the bride’s. Bill Scheetz was best man.
Following the wedding ceremony, a reception was held at the bride’s mother’s home, after which the newly married couple left on a wedding trip to the Adirondacks, Mrs. Howard traveling in a trim navy blue suit, with matching accessories. Midland Free Press, June 25, 1936.
