Samuel Douglas Switzer (1920 ~ 1977)
5.9.4.10. Tenth child of Margaret E. Johnston and Alfred E. Switzer, Samuel Douglas Switzer, was born April 2, 1920, in Midland, Simcoe Co., Ontario.
He married Vera Lillian Sinker, daughter of John Clifford Sinker and Alice Maude Gate, January 23, 1943, Hamilton, Ontario, and had one child:

Samuel D. Switzer died June 29, 1977, aged 57 years in Burlington, Ontario and Vera L. Sinker Switzer died June 11, 2007, aged 85 year in Chesley, Ontario, and are interred at Greenwood Cemetery.

In New Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday afternoon, January 23, 1943, at 3 o'clock, Rev. F. G. Marshall united in marriage Vera Lillian, twin daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Sinker, and Mr. Samuel D. G. Switzer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Switzer, of Pembroke, Ont. The bride, given away by her father, wore a gown of white brocaded satin with a slight train. Her veil was held in place by a halo of orange blossoms and she carried a shower bouquet of Better Time roses and stevia. Mrs. A. Lisson, Jr., sister of the bride, was matron of honour, gowned in pale blue taffeta with net skirt. Her veil fell from a headdress of matching colour and she carried a bouquet of Talisman roses. Miss Norma McLeod, as bridesmaid, wore a matching gown and headdress and carried Briarcliff roses. The flower girl, Miss Esther Hebner, niece of the groom, was in pink taffeta with pink and white braided headdress, and nosegay of white pom-pons and roses.
The best man was Mr. Russell Switzer, Midland, brother of the groom, and the ushers were Messrs. Jack Wills and Charles Wills, Hamilton, Mr. J. Walker was at the organ, and Mrs. Ivan Smith sang Because and O Promise Me.
Sixty guests were present at a reception at Roberts', where the bride's mother received in a dress of chocolate brown with gold sequins and bouquet of Talisman roses and stevia. The groom's mother wore light blue, with bouquet of Briarcliff roses and stevia. Hamilton Spectator, Feb. 1, 1943.

At the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, Burlington, on Wednesday, June 29, 1977, Samuel D. Switzer. Beloved husband of Vera Sinker, 3030 Prospect St., Burlington, in his 58th year. Dear father of Mrs. Richard Zimmerman (Sandra) of Burlington. Brother of Elvera, Phoebe, Margaret, Doris, Russell, Ray and Robert. Also survived by two grandsons, Hugh and Michael Zimmerman. Resting at the Burlington Funeral Home of Dodsworth and Brown, 2241 New St. Service on Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial donations to The Cancer Society would be appreciated. An employee of the Steel Company of Canada for the last 29 years, John Clifford Sinker, of 924 Beach Road, passed away early yesterday morning [December 19, 1943] in the Hamilton General Hospital, after a short illness. Mr. Sinker had served overseas in the First Great War and for three years he had served with the 120th Battalion. He was born in Hamilton 44 years ago and was well-known and will long be remembered for his kind and genial nature. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, the former Alice Gate; one son, Clifford, with the Royal Canadian Navy; three daughters, Mrs. William Childs, Mrs. Arthur Lisson, and Mrs. Samuel Switzer, all of Hamilton; his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Sinker, city; two brothers, James H. and Roy, both in Hamilton, and one sister, Mrs. William Paton, city; also one grandson. The remains are resting at the J. G. Wallace Funeral Home and service will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock with interment in Westmount Memorial Park Cemetery. At Brantwood Manor Nursing Home, Burlington, Ontario, on Friday, July 19, 1985, Alice Maud (Gate) Sinker of Burlington, age 87 years, beloved wife of the late Clifford Sinker. Dear mother of Muriel (Mrs. William Childs), Vera Switzer, Margaret Lisson and Clifford, all of Burlington. Also survived by eleven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Smith’s Funeral Home, 485 Brant St., Burlington on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where Funeral Service will be held Monday July 22, 1985 at 1 p.m. The Rev. Henry Sinker, husband of Elizabeth Sinker, died Saturday, June 8, 1935 at his home, 73 Oxford Street, at the age of 63 years. He was born in Manchester, England, and had been a resident of this city for 52 years, being employed by the Steel Company of Canada for 37 years. He was a member of the Anglican Church, and is survived by his widow, three sons, James, Clifford and Roy, and one daughter, Vera; one sister, Mrs. G. MacDonald, and one brother, John, all of this city. The funeral will take place Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock from the above address. Interment will take place in Hamilton Cemetery. At St. Joseph’s Hopital, on Friday, March 27, 1964, Elizabeth Ellen Crooks, of 411 Cochrane Road South, beloved wife of the late Henry Sinker, dear mother of James and Mrs. William Gilmour (Vera) of Hamilton. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Member of the Cenetenary Mother’s Club, the West End Mother’s Club and the Cheerio Club of the east and Y.W.C.A. Charter member of L.O.B.A. No. 561. Resting at J. B. Elizabeth Clowes Sinker
February 20, 1840 ~ December 28, 1906
Mrs. Elizabeth Sinker, an old and highly esteemed resident of Hamilton, passed away last night [December 28, 1906] at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Pemberton, 112 Canada Street. Deceased was the relict of John Sinker, who passed away in 1891. She had been ill about thirteen months, having suffered a stroke of paralysis. Two sons, John and Henry, and four daughters, Mrs. James Pemberton, Mrs. George McDonald, Mrs. S. Marsden, and Mrs. Fred Chapman, will receive this sympathy of many friends.
