Margaret Isabel Switzer  (1909 ~ 1998)

 

5.9.4.4. Fourth child of Margaret E. Johnston and Alfred E. Switzer, Margaret Isabel Switzer, was born April 3, 1909, in Midland, Simcoe Co., Ontario. 

  She married Walter Edward Milligan, son of Alfred Nathaniel Milligan and Alice May Bevis, January 4, 1941, Hamilton, Ontario, and had three children:

Margaret I. Switzer Milligan

Quietly at St. Joseph’s Hospital on Saturday, January 24, 1998, Margaret I. Milligan at the age of 88 years. Beloved wife of the late Walter Milligan (1949). Loving mother of Barry (wife Sharon) of Sudbury. Predeceased by a daughter Beverly Milligan and a son, Richard. Grandmother of two, great grandmother of five. Sister of Doris Todd (husband John) of Hamilton. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and their families. At Margaret’s request cremation has taken place. A Service of Remembrance for Margaret will be held at Hess Street Baptist Mission, 179 Hess Street North, on Wednesday, January 28, 1998, at 2 p.m. Pastor Jim Morrow officiating. Memorial donations to the Hess Street Mission Memorial Fund or Hymn Book Fund would be appreciated by the family. October 9, 1907 ~ November 3, 1949

At the Hamilton General Hospital, on Thursday, November 3, 1949, Walter E. Milligan, beloved husband of Margaret Switzer, and beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Milligan, late of Highland Avenue, aged 42 years. Service in the Drawing Room of Brown Bros. Funeral Home, King Street East, at St. Clair Avenue, on Saturday at 2 p.m. Interment in Woodland Cemetery. Hamilton Spectator, Nov. 3, 1949.

 

Barry E. Milligan

May 8, 1941 ~ April 1, 2014

In Loving Memory of Barry Edward Milligan, 72 years, Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Health Sciences North.

  Beloved husband of Sharon (Borne) Milligan predeceased. Loving father of Sherry (Greg Kay), Patrick Milligan (Helen) and Darren Parfit (Caroline). Sadly missed by seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Dear son of Walter and Margaret (Switzer) Milligan both predeceased. Dear brother of Beverley and Richard both predeceased. Dear son in law of Velma Borne and predeceased by Geordie Borne. Dear brother in law of Larry Borne (Joyce). Lovingly remembered by good friends Wendy and Brian, Cathy and Ken, Dave, and Peter.
  Barry loved to travel especially on his beloved motorcycle across the United States. He had a great affinity for the outdoors. He was happiest when sitting in the sun, hanging out with his best buddies Brian and Wendy. He will be remembered as a proud Irishman who leaves us with the blessing “And until we meet again, may the Good Lord hold you in the palm of His hand.”
  A special thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Health Sciences North for their great care and compassion.

Beverly J. Milligan

November 3, 1942 ~ April 14, 1997

Peacefully, after a lengthy illness, Beverly Jean Milligan, at Henderson Hospital, on Monday, April 14, 1997, in her 55th year. Beloved daughter of Margaret and the late Walter Milligan. Loving sister of Barry and his wife Sharon of Sudbury and the late Richard. Lovingly remembered by her aunt, uncle, cousins, niece and nephews. At the family’s request, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Friday, 1 p.m. at Hess Street Baptist Mission. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home, Robinson Chapel. Expressions of sympathy to the Hess Street Baptist Mission would be appreciated by the family. Richard W. Milligan

April 27, 1949 ~ September 22, 1972

Suddenly in Hamilton on Friday, September 22, 1972, Richard Walter Milligan, 1139 King Street East, in his 24th year, beloved son of Mrs. Margaret Milligan, and the late Walter Milligan, dear brother of Barry, of Sudbury and Beverly at home. Employee of Cappco Pipe  Piling  Ltd. Resting at the L. G. Wallace Funeral Home, 151 Ottawa Street North, funeral service on Monday at 3:30 p.m. Interment Woodland Cemetery. Hamilton Spectator, Sept. 23, 1972.

 

Alfred N. Milligan

March 25, 1885 ~ November 29, 1957

Alfred N. Milligan, of 92 Sherman Avenue North, died suddenly yesterday, November 29, 1957 in Hamilton. He was born in Hamilton 73 years ago and had lived here all his life. He was employed with the International Harvester Company for 42 years, retiring two years ago. His wife, Alice, died in 1954. Mr. Milligan was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Larry Moning (Gertrude) of Hamilton. The service will be held in Brown Brothers’ Funeral Home on Monday afternoonat 2 p.m. followed by interment in Woodland Cemetery. Hamilton Spectator, Nov. 30, 1957.

 

Alice M. Bevis Milligan

May 28, 1884 ~ July 17, 1954

Mrs. Alfred Milligan, aged 70, died early today, July 17, 1954 at Hamilton after an illness if nearly nine years. The former Alice May Bevis, she was a native and life-long resident of this city. Mrs. Milligan made her home at 92 Sherman Avenue North. She had been a member of the United Church of Canada. Surviving, besides her husband, are one daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Moning (Gertrude), and six grandchildren; also a sister, Mrs. George Grover, all of Hamilton, and a brother, Edwin Bevis, of Detroit. The service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Brown Brothers’ Funeral Home, with burial at Woodland Cemetery. Hamilton Spectator, July 17, 1954.

 

Edward C. Milligan

July 14, 1862 ~ April 10, 1904

Suddenly, on Sunday, April 10, 1904, Edward Milligan, aged 41 years. The funeral will take place from his late residence, the Sun Life building, James street north, Wednesday, at 3:30 p.m.  Friends will please accept this intimation. Hamilton Spectator, Apr. 11, 1904.

 

F. Louisa Porter Milligan

August 10, 1858 ~ September 6, 1949

Mrs. Louisa Milligan, 91, of 92 Sherman Avenue North, died in this city yesterday, September 6, 1949. She was born in Woodstock but had spent most of her life in Hamilton. Mrs. Milligan was an adherent of Livingston United Church. Surviving are one son, Alfred; two grandchildren, Walter Milligan and Mrs. L. Moning; six great-granchildren; one brother, William Porter, all of Hamilton; and one sister, Mrs. W. E. L. Hunt, of Huntsville. The remains are at the Brown Brothers’ Funeral Home for a service on Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Interment will be in Hamilton Cemetery. Hamilton Spectator, Sept. 7, 1949.

 

Thomas W. Milligan

1826 ~ March 18, 1898

Thomas W. Milligan, who suffered from a stroke of paralysis in the market a few days ago, died yesterday, March 18, 1898. He had resided in the city for about fifty years and was a well-known resident of the west end. He was a staunch Conservative in politics. He leaves a widow, five sons and four daughters: William, Edward and Thomas Milligan, of London; Mrs. W. Pickthorn, Nevada, Mo.; Mrs. W. Logan, Boise City, Idaho, and two daughters at home. The funeral will take place to-morrow at 3:30. Hamilton Spectator, Mar. 19, 1898.

     

Eliza Reid Milligan

1830 ~ March 29, 1914

A well known and highly respected resident of this city was removed by death yesterday, March 29, 1914, at the family residence, 180 Locke St. N., in the person of Mrs. Eliza Milligan. The deceased was born in Tyrone County, Ireland, 84 years ago, and had been a resident of Hamilton for the past 65 years. She was the relict of Thomas Milligan, who predeceased her sixteen years ago, and is survived by three sons, Thomas, William and Wilson Milligan, all of Hamilton, and three daughters, Mrs. William Pickthorn, Nevada, Missouri; Mrs. George Wood and Mrs. Grugen, of Hamilton. The funeral will take place on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the above address to Hamilton cemetery. Hamilton Spectator, Mar. 30, 1914.
