----- OBITUARIES -----
Sarah Adams Muirhead
I regret to announce that death of Mrs. John Muirhead, who died at the residence of her husband, Mr. John Muirhead, of the Township of Haldimand, the week before last, January 22, 1880. Cobourg World, Feb. 6, 1880.
John Muirhead
1814 ~ April 22, 1895
Yes, since last we wrote, an aged pilgrim has laid aside the travel-stained garments of earth and donning the spotless robes of the ransomed, has entered the Eternal city, April 22, 1895. John Muirhead to whom the foregoing refers, was born in Stanstead County, Quebec, in 1814, but a few years afterwards his family removed to this vicinity and he came, while yet a youth, to reside with his uncle, Mr. Joseph Muirhead, on a farm about three miles east of this village. Upon this farm, which on the decease of his uncle became his own, Mr. Muirhead has resided throughout his long and useful life. He was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Adams, an estimable lady, who some fifteen years ago preceded him to Paradise. To Mr. and Mrs. Muirhead were born four sons and one daughter. Of these, the sons, namely, Mr. Joseph Muirhead of Roseneath, Messrs. William and Alfred Muirhead, who reside on the homestead and Mr. Albert Muirhead, who some years ago, went to the North West, survive to mourn their loss. Mr. Muirhead though past four score was still hale and hearty, never as he was wont to say, having known a day’s sickness in forty years, when on Thursday of last week he was seized with a chill and severe pain in the lungs. Every effort was made to afford relief, and medical aid at once summoned, when it was found that he was suffering from congestion of the lungs. All that skill and care could do proved unavailing to arrest the progress of the disease, and on Monday at noon there burst on his enraptured vision the dazzling radiance of that noon tide whose glory no shadows ever dim and made forever whole by touch of the wondrous physician he passed to dwell with the loved ones gone before, in that land where age, sickness and death are evermore unknown. Mr. Muirhead was for more then 70 years a resident of this neighborhood and for upward of 50 years a devoted member of the Methodist church. He was closely identified with almost every interest of that branch of the church of God. He was a member of the first trustee Board formed in connection with the church in Baltimore, of which Board he was still a member at the time of his death. During his long residence among us his simple, earnest piety, liberality and gentle kindly disposition won the esteem of all who knew him, and each one feels that in the decease of Mr. Muirhead a personal friend has been removed. On Wednesday the funeral moved from the family residence to the Methodist burial ground; Rev. M. E. Wilson officiating. A memorial service will be held in the church on Sabbath morning. Cobourg World, Apr. 26, 1895.
