Samuel Beverly Swain  (1919 ~ 1988)

 

8.1.4.2. Second child of Blanche M. Linton and Glenn F. Swain, Samuel Beverly Swain, was born November 25, 1919, in Arcadia Twp., Lapeer Co., Michigan, U.S.

  He married Mary Geraldine Swiger, daughter of Obed Swiger and Lala Dee O’Neill, April 2, 1951, in Winchester, Frederick Co., West Virginia and had six children:

  Samuel B. Swain died March 25, 1988, aged 68 years, on Dothan, Alabama and Mary G. Swiger Swain died February 7, 2006, aged 84 years in Daleville, Alabama.

Samuel B. Swain

Samuel B. Swain, 68, Daleville, Alabama, formerly of Mt. Clemens, passed away on March 25, 1988, at Dothan, Alabama. 

  He was born on November 25, 1919 to Glenn and Blanche Linton Swain. He married Geraldine Swiger on April 2, 1951 in Virginia. 

  Mr. Swain was employed at Ford Motor Co. in Detroit and served in the U.S. Navy from May 1943 to November 1945, during World War II.

  He is survived by Geraldine Swain, his wife, of Daleville, Ala.; four daughters, Beverly Jean Goodman of McMinnville, Oregon, Gerri Lynn Rippe of Ladson, S.C., Sheree Sue Hayes of Ashford, Ala. and Janna Lee Tyler of Daleville, Ala.; two sons, Scott Swain of Mt. Clemens and Jack Swain of Grand Rapids; 10 grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. (Mike) Omah Kilbreath of Lum. He was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Swain of Lum on March 5, 1988.

  Funeral arrangements were made in Daleville, Ala.

M. Geraldine Swiger Swain

December 1, 1921 ~ February 7, 2006

Mary Geraldine Swiger Swain, age 84, of Daleville, Ala., died Tuesday evening, February 7, 2006, at her home following an extended illness.

  Geraldine’s wishes were to donate her body to the University of South Alabama College of Medicine.

  Geraldine was born December 1, 1921, in Washington, Pa. and grew up in Beallsville, Pa., where she graduated from high school.  She attended nursing school in Brownsville, Pa., prior to joining the United States Army.

  Mrs. Swain served as a 2nd Lt., nursing in occupied Japan and Okinawa where she received the Victory Medal and Japanese Occupation Medal. Her nursing career spanned over 40 years.

  She married Samuel Swain in 1951 and was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Geraldine had made Daleville her home since 1981 where she was a member of Daleville Church of Christ.

  Her husband, Samuel Swain, preceded her in death, in 1988.

 Survivors include four daughters; Beverly Jean Goodman, McMinnville, Ore., Geri Lynn Rippe and her husband, Carl, Daleville, Ala., Sheree Sue Hayes, Daleville, Ala., and Janna Lee Cooper and her husband, Gene, Hartford, Ala., two sons, John Ralph “Jack” Swain and his wife, Carrie, Jenison, Mich., and Scott Samuel Swain and his wife Bonnie, North Branch, Mich., two brothers, Obed Vernon Swiger and his wife, Delores, Bethesda, Md., and Gerald Loye Swiger and his wife, Wilma, Waterford, Mich. Fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

  Memorials may be made in her memory to the Daleville Church of Christ, P.O. Box 941 Daleville, Ala., 36322.
