Sarah Jane Linton  (1854 ~ 1926)

 

8.2. Second child of Margaret Adams and Thomas Linton, Sarah Jane Linton, was born August 18, 1854, in Cobourg, Ontario. 

  She married George Edward Moore, son of Benjamin Franklin Moore and Hannah Martling, October 27, 1885, in Lapeer Co., Michigan, U.S. and had five children:

 

 

  Sarah J. Linton Moore died December 23, 1926, aged 72 years and George E. Moore died June 1, 1932, aged 68 years in Mayfield Twp., Lapeer Co., Michigan, and are interred

Sarah J. Linton Moore

Mrs. George Moore, wife of the county drain commissioner-elect, died at her home three miles east of Lapeer, Thursday morning, December 23, 1926 of a complication of diseases.

  Mrs. Moore (Sarah Jane Linton) was born in Goderich, Ontario, August 18, 1854, and came to Michigan with her parents in 1880. Five years later she married George Moore. She was a member of the Owen M. P. church of the Ladies Aid, of the organization.

 Surviving are her husband; five children, Mrs. Claude Slater (Maude Moore), Mrs. Herman Gantz (Bertha Moore), and Ben Moore of Lapeer, Mrs. George Spurck (Grace Moore) and Charles Moore of Detroit; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. E. L. Weston of Lapeer; a nephew, Edward Linton of Miami, Fla., and five nieces.

 Mrs. Moore was a most devoted wife and mother and will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

 Funeral services were held at her late residence Sunday after-noon with Rev. Frank S. Hemingway officiating. Interment was in Stiles Cemetery.

  Relatives from out of town here to attend the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George Spurck, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Moore, Mrs. Lizzie Hadley and son, Irving, Mrs. Stephen Thomas and two children of Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hadley and Mr. and Mrs. William Pratt of Hadley, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Harsen and three children and Mrs. Glenn Swain of Lum. George E. Moore

December 28 1864 ~ June 1, 1932

George E. Moore, age 68, Lapeer County drain commissioner, died at his home in Mayfield Township of a complication of diseases last night [May 31, 1932]. Mr Moore had been in poor health for the past four years.

  George E. Moore was born in Lafayette, Ind., December 28, 1864. He came to Lapeer with his parents while still a small boy. He married Sarah J. Linton in 1885. She died in December, 1926

  Mr. Moore has been active in political life of Lapeer County for several years, his genial nature making him many friends who with the family mourn his loss. He has served as drain commissioner since January 1, 1927, and also held the office of supervisor for many years, representing both Mayfield Twp., and Lapeer City, at various periods. He was also a deputy sheriff. 

  Mr. Moore is survived by five children, Mrs. Claude Slater of Lapeer, Ben Moore of Lapeer, Mrs. George Spurck of Detroit, Mrs. Herman Gantz of Lapeer and Charles Moore of Detroit. There are also two sisters, Mrs Emogene Hadley of Lapeer and Mrs. Elizabeth Hadley of Detroit, and seven grandchildren. 

  Funeral Services are to be held from the residence Friday at 2:30 p.m. with burial at Mount Hope cemetery. Rev Hemingway will officiate. Lapeer County Press, June 2, 1932.
