He married (1) Rebecca Betty Lucas Morrow, daughter of Earl E. Lucas and Helen Hull, July 21, 1949, in Grand Blanc, Michigan.
He married (2) Vivian Ethel Smith, daughter of Hubert Caldwell Smith and Gwendolyn Eliza Robson, December 15, 1955, in E. Lansing, Michigan, and had two children:

Francis M. Sim died May 20, 1985, aged 39 years, in Boalsburg, Pennsylvania.

A Sim memorial gathering will be organized by his collegues at a date to be announced.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Frank Sim Liberal Arts Endowment Fund, a scholarship fund for students, established by the Department of Sociology at Penn State. Information about the fund is available from the department.
Francis Montgomery Sim, 56, of 241 S. Academy St., Boalsburg, died at his home Monday, May 20, 1985, after an extended illness.
Sim had been an associate professor in the Department of Sociology at Penn State since 1967. Before that, he taught at Stanford University and directed the Bureau of Social and Political Research at Michigan State University; where he earned his bachelor’s, masters and doctoral degrees.
In the field of sociology, he was active in the development of the theory of network analysis and the study of educational institutions. He was a member of the American Sociological Association and the International Network for Social Network Analysis. At Penn State, he was a former chairman of the Faculty Advisory Committee to the computation center and was active in the faculty-unionization movement.
He was born in Romeo, Michigan, July 29, 1928, a son of Raymond R. and Margaret Weston Sim. He was married to Lynne E. Sim, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters: Hannah E. and Elizabeth L., both of Boalsburg; two sons: Allen W. of New York City and Raymond C. of Davis, Calif.; a grandson; a brother, Richard of Flint, Michigan; and a sister, Margaret Haglund of East Tawas, Michigan. Center Daily Times, May 23, 1985.
