----- MARRIAGE -----

Adams-Thomas

Hastings United Church, decorated with gladioli and ferns, was the setting for a pretty wedding Saturday afternoon, August 8, 1953, when Margaret Jean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Thomas, Hastings, became the bride of Donald Stanley Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Adams, Roseneath.

Lieut. Arthur Shadgett of the Salvation Army stationed at Windsor, Nova Scotia, who, is a brother-in-law of the bride performed the ceremony.

The wedding music was played by the bride’s sister, Mrs. Ben Smith of Peterborough and her brother, Mr. Murray Thomas, also of Peterborough, sang “The Lord’s Prayer,” during the signing of the register.

Mr. Thomas also gave his sister in marriage as their father is at present confined in hospital.

The bride was lovely in a ballerina length gown of ice-blue nylon net over taffeta. The strapless bodice topped a bouffant skirt trimmed with appliqued flowers. She wore a bolero and mittens of matching shade of blue. Her arm bouquet was of deep red roses.    Miss Marilyn Thomas was her sister’s bridesmaid and wore an identical gown in maize shade with bolero, mittens and a floral headdress to match. She carried a cascade bouquet of mixed summer flowers in orchid shade.

Mr. Neil Adams of Oshawa was groomsman for his brother and the ushers were Laverne Thomas and Trevor Brown, Roseneath.

The reception was held in the Sunday school hall. Mrs. Thomas received the guests in a gown of navy silk faille with white accessories. She was assisted by the groom’s mother, wearing a navy printed nylon dress with navy accessories. Both mothers wore corsages of pink carnations.

The bride and groom left later on their honeymoon trip to points east. The bride was wearing a white linen suit with a corsage of red roses. Cobourg Sentinel-Star, Aug. 13, 1953.
