Traditional wedding music was played by Miss Shirley Bennett, Havelock and also played accompaniment for the soloist, Victor Hewson, Cobourg, who sang, “I Love You Truly,” preceding the ceremony and “O, Perfect Love,” during the signing of the register.
Baskets of yellow daffodils and ferns decorated the church. The bride given in marriage by her father, was radiant in her wedding gown of white nylon net and lace over satin, deep rows of scalloped nylon lace featured the skirt, a fitted bodice with long sleeves tapering to points at the wrist and a demure collared neckline. Her veil of nylon net was held in place with a coronet of pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of deep red roses and baby’s breath.
The matron of honour was Mrs. Clifford Page, sister of the bride with Miss Lavigne Parker and Miss Lorna Brisbin as bridesmaids. Their gowns were styled identically of nylon net over taffeta with matching mittens and headdresses. Miss Parker’s dress was maize nylon net and taffeta, Miss Bribin’s gown was identical in pink and the matron-of-honour Mrs. Page wore ice-blue nylon net. They all carried nosegays of roses and carnations. The groom’s attendant was his brother, Mr. Walter Grieve, Cobourg.
The ushers were Neil Adams, Oshawa and Clifford Page, Cobourg, brother and brother-in-law of the bride. A reception for over seventy guests which followed the ceremony, was held at Maple Lodge where the bride’s mother received the guests wearing a navy Ticatina crepe dress with navy accessories. She was assisted by the groom’s mother wearing grey taffeta with black accessories. Both mothers wore corsages of Johanna Hill Roses. Before leaving for their honeymoon the bride presented her bouquet to her grandmother, Mrs. T. Adams. For their wedding trip to the U.S.A. the bride donned a wine gabardine suit with navy accessories with a corsage of white carnations.
