Charles Leslie Sherwin  (1894 ~ 1966)

 

9.4.3. Third child of Sarah J. Adams and Charles Sherwin, Charles Leslie Sherwin, was born June 1, 1894, in Alnwick Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario.

  He married Grace Helena Jones, daughter of Alexander Jones and Sarah Jane Alexander, May 31, 1922, in Roseneath, Ontario and had one child:

 

 

  C. Leslie Sherwin died April 4, 1966, aged 71 years in Campbellford, Ontario and Grace H. Jones Anderson Sherwin died June 24, 1985, aged 89 years in Cobourg, Ontario and are interred at Centenary Cemetery.

The parsonage at Roseneath was the scene of a quiet wedding on Wednesday, May 31, 1922, at 4 p.m., when Miss Grace Anderson of Warkworth was united in marriage to Mr. Leslie Sherwin, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sherwin of Roseneath. The ceremony was preformed by Rev. H. A. Bunt, B.A.

 The bride was becomingly clad in a gown of white silk crepe, she also wore the customary veil of tulle. The young couple were supported by Mr. Edgar Braithwaite and Miss Elva Sherwin, sister of the groom. After the ceremony Mr. and Mrs. Sherwin left by motor for a short honeymoon to Cobourg and points east, the bride traveling in a suit of navy serge with hat to match. Upon their return they will take up their residence at Roseneath.

 The hearty good wishes of the whole community follow them as they go forth together on the journey of life. Cobourg World, June 2, 1922.

C. Leslie Sherwin

For seventy years a resident of Roseneath Community, Leslie Charles Sherwin, 71, died in the Campbellford Hospital on April 4, 1966 after a five month illness. The deceased was born near Roseneath, a son of Charles Sherwin and wife, Sarah Jane Adams. He attended S.S. 1 and 25 Alnwick Township, was a member of the United Church. For 25 years he delivered mail on Roseneath R.R.1, making many sacrifices that the mail would be delivered through snow-packed roads. He and Mrs. Sherwin owned and operated Maple Lodge, a tourist home in Roseneath.  Retiring over a year ago they moved to Warkworth.

 Surviving are his widow, Grace Anderson whom he married in 1922, son Kenneth Sherwin, Baltimore, grandsons David and Todd Sherwin of Baltimore; sister, Mrs. Edgar (Elva) Braithwaite, a brother Silas. A brother Delbert predeceased him.

  The service was conducted in Roseneath United Church by Rev. H. E. Beare assisted by Rev. H. H. Lackey of Warkworth and Rev. R. C. White, from Newtonville. Interment was in Centenary Cemetery. The pallbearers were Don Brown, Harold George, Mr. Brown, Hector Winklareth, Reginald Crego, Clarence Down; flower bearers, Mr. Skuce, Bart Thackeray, Harold Blodgett, Neil Shearer and Victor Morrow. Grace H. Jones (Anderson) Sherwin

December 7, 1895 ~ June 24, 1985

At Cobourg General Hospital on Monday, June 24, 1985, in her 90th year. Grace Helena Sherwin of Legion Village, Cobourg, beloved wife of the late Leslie Sherwin, formerly of Roseneath. Loving mother of Kenneth and his wife Doris, Cobourg. Loving grand-mother of David of Calgary and Todd of London. Friends may call at the Milroy Funeral Home, 301 Division St., Cobourg, on Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted in the Milroy Chapel on Wednesday, June 26 at 11 a.m., to be followed by cremation. If friends so desire remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the Sherwin family. Cobourg Daily Star, June 25, 1985.
