Elizabeth Margaret Adams  (1866 ~ 1941)

 

9.5. Fifth child of Thomas Adams and Jane James, Elizabeth Margaret Adams, was born January 16, 1866, in Haldimand Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario.

  She married George Edward Tucker, son of George Tucker and Elizabeth Wills, January 14, 1891, in Fenella, Haldimand Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario and had four children:

 

 

  Elizabeth M. Adams Tucker died October 20, 1941, aged 75 years in Cobourg, Ontario and George E. Tucker died February 13, 1942, aged 77 years in Plainville, Ontario and are interred at Macklin’s Cemetery.

Elizabeth M. Adams Tucker

Mrs. Elizabeth Tucker, beloved wife of Mr. George Edward Tucker, passed away at Cobourg General hospital on Monday evening, October 20, 1941. Mrs. Tucker had been in poor health for some time. She and Mr. Tucker had resided on their farm, north of Centreton for many years. The past year they have been living with their son, Mr. Milford Tucker, at Plainville. The deceased was born in Haldimand Township and was in her 75th year. Before her marriage she was Miss Elizabeth Adams. She was of a quiet disposition and was a loving mother and a good neighbor. She was a member of the United Church. She and Mr. Tucker had just bought a new home in the village but with sickness had not been able to move. The funeral service was held on Thursday afternoon, October 23. After a short service at the home of her son Elvin, the service was held at the United Church, Rev. M.C. Fisher, of Plainville officiated. Left to mourn her loss besides Mr. Tucker are three sons, Arthur of Listowel, Milford of Plainville and Elvin of Centreton. Two sisters, Mrs. Will Macklin and Mrs. Vernon Brenton of Fenella and one brother, Mr. Samuel Adams of Fenella also survive. A sister, Mrs. R. Waldie, of Grafton predeceased her about a year ago. After the service a large crowd of friends followed the remains to Macklin’s Cemetery where interment took place in the family plot. The pallbearers were Messrs. O. Turk, John Gillespie, W. Rogers, George Macklin, Beecher McDonald and John Beatty. Many beautiful floral tributes testified to the esteem in which the deceased was held.  There were several attending the funeral from Roseneath, Fenella, Listowel, Plainville, Gore’s Landing, Morganston, Cobourg and Baltimore. George E. Tucker

April 3, 1864 ~ February 13, 1942

There passed away at the home of his son, Mr. Milford Tucker, of Plainville, on Friday, February 13, 1942, Mr. George Tucker after a long illness. Mr. Tucker had been in bed for some time. He had been living with his son for the past ten months.

  Deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Tucker, of Haldimand Township. He was in his 78th year and was born near Centreton. He went, when a year old, with his parents to a farm north of Centreton, where he loved for over a period of 75 years.  His wife, formerly Margaret Elizabeth Adams, predeceased him about three months ago. He was a member of Centreton United Church and had led an active life. Though not in robust health, he worked about his farm until about a year ago, when he and Mrs. Tucker retired and lived for a time with Mr. and Mrs. E. Tucker, of Centreton, and then went to Plainville to make their home. In politics he was a Liberal. He was a good neighbor and had many friends.

  The funeral service was held at Macklin’s United Church, Rev. Mr. Fisher, of Gore’s Landing, officiating, on Tuesday afternoon.

  He leaves to mourn his loss three sons, Mr. Arthur Tucker, of Listowel, Ontario; Milford, of Plainville, and Elvin, of Centreton, and several grandchildren.

  The remains were interred in the family plot in Macklin’s Cemetery. There were many floral tributes from relatives and friends. Cobourg Sentinel-Star, Feb. 19, 1942.
