George Austin Macklin (1931 ~ 2014)

9.6.2.4. Fourth child of Jennie L. Spear and Wilbert R. Macklin, George Austin Macklin, was born July 23, 1931, in Fenella, Haldimand Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario.

He married Zeita Helena Bongard, daughter of Richard Dorland Bongard and Cora Minerva Graham, July 23, 1955, in Campbellford, Ontario and had five children:

George A. Macklin died March 12, 2014, aged 82 years in Port Hope, Ontario.

Macklin—Bongard

A quiet but pretty wedding was solemnized in the Free Methodist Church, Campbellford, on Saturday, July 23, 1955, at 2:30 p.m., when Zeita Helena, younger daughter of Mrs. Cora Bongard, was married to Mr. George Austin Macklin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Macklin of Fenella, Ont.

Miss Esther Robinson of Peterborough, played the wedding music, while the bride dressed in nylon net over taffeta came up the aisle on the arm of her brother, Mr. Robert Bongard of Toronto. Her only attendant was her sister Miss Thelma Bongard of London, Ont., dressed in blue net and lace over taffeta.

The ushers were Mr. James Elliott of Peterborough and Mr. Ronald Covert of Warkworth.

The ceremony was performed by the church minister, Rev. N. Bosko, of Campbellford, assisted by Rev. Kenneth Bauder sang the Lord’s Prayer immediately preceding the service and “the Wedding Prayer” during the signing of the register.

During the reception, Mrs. (Rev.) Kemp of Warkworth sang, “Entreat Me Not to Leave Thee.” Campbellford Herald, Aug. 3, 1955.

Peacefully went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of Zeita Macklin nee: Bongard. Loving father of Ken (Donna), Beverley Kernaghan, Linda Macklin-Charles (Stephen), Bonnie Brown (Lee) and Dennis (Nancy). Dear grandfather of Beth, Stephanie (Wes), Jennie, Abby, Josh, Holli, Hannah, Scott, Lexie and Trevor. Great grandfather of Kaiden and Sophie. Brother of Sidney and his wife Janet. Brother-in-law to Clara Macklin. Predeceased by siblings Harol, Marguerite and May. George will be fondly remembered by nieces, nephews, family and friends. A celebration of life service will be held at Grace Church (2 Centennial Drive, Port Hope) on Saturday, April 26 at 12:00 p.m. with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. It is George’s wish that in lieu of flowers, any donations be made to the MS Society of Canada.
