----- MARRIAGE -----

Macklin—Bain

Standards of white ‘mums enhanced St. Paul’s United Church, Bowmanville, for the marriage on Saturday, September 22, 1962, at 3 o’clock of Janet Elizabeth Bain, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bain of Bowmanville, and Mr. Sidney Edgar Macklin of Malton. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Jennie Macklin of Smiths Falls and the late Mr. Wilbert Macklin. Rev. H. Turner officiated.

Church organist, Mr. M. Beaton, played the wedding music and the soloist was Mr. R. Metcalf.

Mr. Bain gave his daughter in marriage. She wore a floor-length gown of white Chantilly lace which burst into a ruffle of nylon tulle at the hemline of its chapel-trained skirt. The gown had long lily-pointed lace sleeves and was fashioned with a Sabrina neckline jewelled with sequins and pearls. Her elbow-length French silk bouffant veil fell from a tiara of pearls, and her bouquet was a cascade of red roses and white carnations.

Miss June Bain, Bowmanville, was maid of honor for her sister and the junior bridesmaids were Misses Carol and Kathryn Bain, also sisters of the bride, of Bowmanville. The tiny flower girl was little Miss Beverley Macklin of Fenella, the groom’s niece.

The maid of honor was in a short bell-skirted dress of pink peau de sole featuring elbow-length sleeves and a scoop neckline, and teh gowns of the junior bridesmaids were of the same design in peau de sole. All wore matching headpieces and shoes, and white gloves. A cascade of pale pink and white carnations was carried by the maid of honor and the junior bridesmaids, nosegays of white and pale blue carnations.

A short bell-skirted dress of blue peau de sole with elbow-length sleeves and scoop neckline was worn by the flower girl. Her headpiece matched her dress, and her shoes and gloves were white. She carried a smaller nosegay of white and pale blue carnations.

Mr. Reg. Jewell of Toronto was best man and the ushers were the groom’s nephew, Mr. Glenn Macklin of Odessa, and Mr. David Werry of Bowmanville.

A reception was held in St. Paul’s United Church Sunday School, where the guests were received by the bride’s mother. For the occasion Mrs. Bain wore a pastel blue lace sheath with deeper blue accessories and corsage of red roses. She was assisted by the groom’s mother who chose a beige lace sheath with rose accessories, brown shoes and bag, and corsage of white carnations.

Following the reception the couple left for a wedding trip to Western Ontario and the United States. For travelling, the bride wore a three-piece chorcoal grey knitted suit, bright blue accessories, black shoes and bag. They will reside in Malton where the bride is employed by the Bank of Nova Scotia and the groom is with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce.

The bride was guest of honor at several parties prior to her marriage. Mrs. Eleanor Ingamells and Mrs. Helen Ross were hostesses for a miscellaneous shower held in Cobourg, and a similar shower was given by Mrs. Leota Beers and Mrs. Doreen Drew in Oshawa. Another miscellaneous shower was held by Mrs. Marg Bevan in Galt. Bowmanville Statesman, Oct. 10, 1962.
