Victoria Doretta Adams  (1873 ~ 1951)

 

9.9. Ninth child of Thomas Adams and Jane James, Victoria Doretta Adams, was born June 15, 1873, in Fenella, Haldimand Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario.

  She married Vernon Brenton, son of William Brenton and Phoebe Ann Tupper, September 24, 1901, in Fenella, Ontario and had three children:

 

 

  Victoria D. Adams Brenton died May 1, 1951, aged 77 years, in Courtice, Ontario and Vernon Brenton died February 9, 1947, aged 72 years in Cobourg, Ontario and are interred at Macklin’s Cemetery.

A quiet wedding was celebrated in our village last week, September 24, 1901. The contracting parties were Mr. Vernon Brenton and Miss Victoria Adams. Their many friends wish them a long and successful married life. Cobourg World, Oct. 4, 1901.

Victoria D. Adams Brenton

After a lengthy illness Mrs. Vernon Brenton passed away Tuesday, May 1, 1951, at “Middle Green Villa” nursing home at Courtice, Ont.

  Mrs. Brenton, who was in her 78th year was born at Fenella, and lived practically her lifetime in that community. Her maiden name, Victoria Adams, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Adams and the last remaining one of a family of nine children. Her husband also predeceased her by four years.

  She was a member of the United Church and of the Women’s Institute and was highly respected by all who knew her.

  Mrs. Brenton is survived by her three daughters: Flossie, Mrs. Bradbury, Cobourg; Teressa, Mrs. Roy Cowling and Reta, Mrs. James Waldie, both of Fenella, and also by six grandchildren: Helen Bradbury (Mrs. Ralph Hortop); and Barbara Bradbury, Marlene and Doreen Cowling and Gene and Kenneth Waldie.

  The funeral service was held from McMillan’s Parlours, Roseneath, and was conducted by Rev. R. C. White. The pallbearers were nephews, Delbert Adams, Bruce Macklin, Milford Tucker, Tom Waldie, Harold Spear and Delbert Sherwin, and the flower bearers other nephews.

  Among those from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. George Davis of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Sid Brenton, Bethel Grove; Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Macklin and Mr. and Mrs. Hayden Butters, Brighton; Mr. Harold Spear and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Waldie, Grafton; Mrs. S. Adams and Miss C. Waldie, Centreton; Mrs. L. Bolton, Gore’s Landing, Mr. and Mrs. M. Tucker and Irvine, Plainville, Mr. and Mrs. George Carruthers, Baltimore and many from Roseneath and Fenella communities.

  Interment was in Bethany (Macklin) Cemetery. Cobourg Sentinel-Star, May 10, 1951.

     

Vernon Brenton

May 28, 1874 ~ February 9, 1947

The death occurred suddenly at Cobourg General on Sunday, February 9, 1947 of Vernon Brenton, Fenella, in his 73rd year.

  Deceased has been a resident of that village all his life. He was a descendant of an old pioneer family the Tupper Family of which came an aunt, Mrs. Ida Parsons, Ballieboro, and Dr. George Tupper of Boston.

  The late Mr. Vernon Brenton had always enjoyed excellent health till the past year. The funeral was held from the family residence on Wednesday, February 12 with interment in Macklin’s Cemetery.

  He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife and three daughters, Mrs. Flossie Bradbury, Cobourg, Mrs. Roy Cowling, Fenella, Mrs. James Waldie, Fenella, and his two sisters, Miss Eva Brenton, Cobourg and Mrs. John Bolten of Gore’s Landing also survive. Cobourg Sentinel-Star, Feb. 20, 1947.
