----- MARRIAGE -----
Brenton—Cowling
A quiet but pretty wedding was solemnized on Saturday afternoon, June 27, 1931, when Teressa Madeline, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Brenton, of Fenella, became the bride of Roy John Cowling, only son of Mr. and Mrs. John Cowling of Fenella. The bride was gowned in pale green georgette with trimmings of Chantilly sand lace and rhinestones, and wore a large sand mohair picture hat, with hose and shoes in blending tones. Her bouquet was ophelia roses and maiden-hair fern, tied with long streamers of pink satin. Miss Muriel Macklin, of Fenella, cousin of the bride, was bridesmaid, wearing green printed chiffon, large picture hat of white mohair, with touches of green, with hose and shoes to match. She carried pink sweetheart roses and gern tied with streamers of rose satin. Mr. Hayden Buttars, of Harwood, suported the groom. The ceremony was performed by Rev. R. W. Paton, at the parsonage, Roseneath.
Immediately afterward, a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents at Fenella. The wedding repast was served in the dining room, which was decorated with rose peonies, orange blossoms, ferns and gypsophila. Later in the evening Mr. and Mrs. Cowling left by motor for Toronto, Niagara Falls and points west.
Mrs. Brenton, mother of the bride, was gowned in orchid crepe in jacquette style, with blouse of white crepe. Mrs. Cowling, mother of the groom, wore black crepe.
The bride travelled in a pink crepe dress, white coat and panama hat, with accessories to match. Among the many beautiful gifts received by the young couple was a substantial cheque from the groom’s parents.
The guests included Mr. and Mrs. John Cowling, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Roberts and daughter Doris; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Down, Mr. and Mrs. James Waldie and Miss Muriel Macklin, Fenella; Mr. and Mrs. George Mouncey, Roseneath; Mr. and Mrs. James Bradbury and small daughter, Helen, Cobourg; and Mr. Hayden Buttars, Harwood.
