Doreen Edna Cowling  (1936 ~ )

 

9.9.2.2. Second child of Teressa M. Brenton and Roy J. Cowling, Doreen Edna Cowling, was born September 29, 1936, in Fenella, Haldimand Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario.

  She married Kenneth John May, son of Albert Lyle May and Jennie Mae Davey, July 12, 1958, in Gore’s Landing, Hamilton Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario and had four children:

  • (9.9.2.2.3)  Trevor Carl  (1961 ~ )

  Doreen E. Cowling May currently resides in Cobourg, Ontario and Kenneth J. May died August 25, 2002, aged 65 years in Cobourg, Ontario and is interred at Cobourg Union Cemetery.

A double-ring ceremony was performed at United Church manse, Gore’s Landing, July 12, 1958 when Doreen Edna Cowling, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cowling, Fenella, became the bride of Kenneth John May, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert May of Baltimore. Rev. H. O. Hanna performed the ceremony.

  The bride’s gown of net and lace over satin was of ballerina length, embroidered with sequins and pearls with scalloped neckline. Her fingertip veil fell from a tiara set with pearls and nylon sleeves. She carried a white Bible with cascade of red roses.  The bride was attended by her sister, Mrs. William Thompson (Marlene) who wore a ballerina gown of blue taffeta. Her headdress was of blue flowers and she carried pink carnations. The groom’s attendant was William Thompson, Harwood.

 The reception for 60 guests was held in Harwood community hall, Mrs. Cowling receiving in blue lace dress, white accessories and pink corsage; assisting, the groom’s mother wore blue flowered silk with white accessories and pink corsage.

  Following the reception, the couple left for Niagara Falls and points west, the bride wore a green nylon dress with white accessories and a corsage of red roses.  The will live at the groom’s farm at Baltimore. Cobourg Sentinel-Star, July 31, 1958.

Kenneth John May passed away peacefully at the Northumberland Health Care Centre on Sunday, August 25, 2002 in his 66th year. Ken May, beloved husband of Doreen May (nee Cowling). Dear father of David May of R.R.6, Cobourg, Larry May and his wife Karen of Harwood, Trevor May and Lee Mayhew of R.R.2, Baltimore, and Allan May and his wife Patti of R.R.6, Cobourg. Loving grandfather of Jason and Diana.  Dear brother of Keith May and his wife Betty of Cobourg and predeceased by Eric. Also survived by his mother-in-law Teressa Cowling. Funeral service will be held at the MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St. E., Cobourg on Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at 2 p.m.  Interment Cobourg Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial donations by cheque to the Northumberland Health Care Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
