Retta Renna Brenton  (1907 ~ 1994)

 

9.9.3. Third child of Victoria D. Adams and Vernon Brenton, Retta Renna Brenton, was born September 21, 1907, in Fenella, Haldimand Twp., Northumberland Co., Ontario.

  She married James Waldie, son of Archibald Waldie and Mabel Murphy, July 20, 1927, in Ivanhoe, Huntingdon Twp., Hastings Co., Ontario and had three children:

 

 

  Retta R. Brenton Waldie died November 3, 1994, aged 87 years and James Waldie died May 3, 1967, aged 62 years in Cobourg, Ontario and are interred at Macklin's Cemetery.

The marriage took place at the United Church parsonage, Ivanhoe, on Wednesday afternoon, July 20, 1927, at 2:30 o’clock, of Retta Renna, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Brenton, Fenella, to Mr. James Waldie, son of Mr. Archibald Waldie, Fenella. Rev. J. N. Lovelace conducted the ceremony. The bride wore a French beige gown with pretty hat to match, and a corsage of sweetheart roses.

  After a buffet luncheon, Mr. and Mrs. Waldie left on the evening train for Toronto and western points. They will reside at Fenella. The bride received several handsome cheques and beautiful gifts. A shower was given also for her here by her Cobourg girl friends. Cobourg Sentinel-Star, July 28, 1927.

At Streamway Villa Nursing Home, Cobourg on Thursday, November 3, 1994. Retta Renna Brenton, wife of the late James Waldie. Dear mother of Gene and her husband Clarence Jaynes of Grafton and Ken and his wife Edna of Cobourg. Also missed by eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Dear sister of Tressa Cowling of Cobourg and the late Flossie Bradbury. Funeral service will be held at Roseneath United Church on Monday, November 7 at 2 p.m. Interment Macklin Cemetery. Friends may call the MacCoubrey Funeral Home, 30 King St., E., Cobourg on Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. In memoriam donations may be made by cheque to the Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. James Waldie

May 8, 1905 ~ May 3, 1967

James Waldie, 62, of Fenella, and a life-time resident of Haldimand died May 3, 1967 in Cobourg General Hospital after an illness of three months. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Archibald Waldie. He had served in Royal Canadian Air Force four years, operated a garage for a time in Fenella, and was Commissionaire at 26 C.O.D. for eight years. Surviving are his widow the former, Retta Brenton, daughter, Gene (Mrs. Clarence Jaynes), Eddystone; son, Kenneth Waldie, Cobourg; seven grandchildren, Brenda, Peter, Kathy and Lynda Jaynes, Karen, Janice and Joan Waldie; sister, Mrs. Clarence Sherwin, brother, George Waldie. Service was conducted by Rev. H. E. Beare; pallbearers, Clark Jewell, Frank Down, Harry Mitchell, Earl Sherwin, John Deere, Ernie DeRainville. Interment in Bethany (Macklin) Cemetery.
