Abraham Stephen Astephen (1924 ~ 2011)
7. Seventh child of Abraham A. Astephen and Rose Balah, Abraham Stephen Astephen, was born January 16, 1924, in North Sydney, Nova Scotia.
He married Jean Agnes McPhee, daughter of Wilfred Laurier McPhee and Sarah Ann Bernard, April 30, 1944, in Sussex, New Brunswick and had four children:

Abraham S. Astephen died June 12, 2011, aged 87 years and Jean A. McPhee Astephen Gagnon died August 31, 2017, aged 91 years in Saint John, New Brunswick.

Abraham S. Astephen
January 16, 1922 ~ June 12, 2011
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Abraham ‘Abe’ Astephen, 87, formerly of North Sydney, on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at the Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Saint John, N.B., where he resided the last number of years.
Born in North Sydney, Abe was the son of the late Abraham and Rose (Balah) Astephen.
He was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas with the Canadian Army.
He was a businessman and managed the former Sealanes Bingo Hall and later the Centennial Diner in North Sydney.
Abe was a former member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion branch 19, and the Northern Yacht Club, North Sydney.
Abe is survived by his children, daughter, Adele Kelly, Saint John, and her children Robin and Corey and great-grandchild, Milo; two sons, George, Markham, Ont., and his children, Catherine and Jeannie, and Paul (Yang Yang), Bejing, China, and his son, Jonathan Boudreau; daughter-in-law, Della Astephen, Saint John, and her children, Lynaya McKinley, Sara Astephen and great-grandchildren, Katie and Emily. Also surviving are his two sisters, Marguerite Hilcox, Stratford, Ont., and Rose Zukowski, Cornwall, Ont.; also surviving is Louise Astephen and stepson, Lloyd MacIntosh and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, David, his brothers, Stephen and Joseph, sisters, Mary MacDonald, Josephine Meers and Adele Barrette.
Visitation for Abe will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral mass to be celebrated 10 a.m., Friday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Jake Andrea officiating. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
A memorial service for Abe will also be held at Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Saint John, N.B., at a later date.

Jean A. McPhee Astephen Gagnon

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Jean Agnes (McPhee-Astephen) Gagnon which occurred at the Loch Lomond Village on Thursday, August 31, 2017. Born 1925 in Saint John, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Annie (Bernard) McPhee. Jean worked for St. Vincent’s School and the Drydock as a cook for many years and she also worked at the Kwik Pik. Jean enjoyed bingo, playing cards, cooking,crafts and walking on the beach collecting shells.
She is survived by husband Sylvio Gagnon of Saint John, her sons Paul Astephen (Yang Yang) of China, George Astephen, and daughter Adele Kelly of Saint John, brothers Larry McPhee (Pat) of Saint John, Wally McPhee (Shirley) of Saint John, Johnny McPhee of Vancouver; grandchildren Corey Kelly (Shannon), Robin Kelly, Jonathan Boudreau, Lynaya Astephen, Sara Astephen, Cathy Astephen and Jeannie Astephen; great-grandchildren Katie Jean, Emily, Milo and Sloan; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her son David Astephen, brothers Eddie, Dan, Jimmy, Mike, Francis; sisters Flossie, Mary, Irene, Anna, Doris, Trudy, and Jackie.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) with visitation being held on Sunday, September 3, 2017 between 6-9 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday, September 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel.
