Joseph Astephen (1922 ~ 1977)
1.6. Sixth child of Abraham A. Astephen and Rose Balah, Joseph Astephen, was born October 8, 1922, in North Sydney, Nova Scotia.
He married Georgina Christina Schima, daughter of John Schima and Annie Rostek, January 10, 1950, in North Sydney, Nova Scotia and had three children:

Joseph Astephen died January 9, 1977, aged 55 years and Georgina C. Schima Astephen died November 23, 2019, aged 88 years in North Sydney, Nova Scotia and are interred at Holy Cross Cemetery.

NORTH SYDNEY—Joseph Astephen, 55, of 57 Archibald Ave., North Sydney, died Sunday in Victoria General Hospital.
Born in North Sydney, he was the son of Mrs. Rose (Balah) Astephen and the late Abraham Astephen.
He owned and operated the Sealanes Centre, North Sydney. He was active in the Northern Yacht and Seaview Golf and Country Club and the curling club. He was a veteran of the Second World War, a member of Branch 19, Royal Canadian Legion, North Sydney and the Cedars of Lebanon. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish.
Surviving besides his mother, are his wife, the former Georgina Schima; a daughter, Linda (Mrs. David Lehrman), New York; a son, Joseph Jr.; five sisters, Mrs. Mary MacDonald and Mrs. Josephine Meers, both of North Sydney; Adele (Mrs. Gaston Barrette), Montreal; Marguerite (Mrs. Clare Hilcox), Tavistock, Ont.; Rose (Mrs. Jack Zukowski), Cornwall, Ont.; two brothers, Steve and Abraham, both of North Sydney.
He was predeceased by an infant son.
Georgina Schima Astephen

It is heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and friend, Georgina Astephen, age 87, on Saturday, November 23, 2019, at the Northside Community Guest Home, North Sydney.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late John and Annie (Rostek) Schima.
Georgina was a talented, self-taught painter and artist whose work was well known on the Northside and surrounding areas. Along with creating her own pieces, she spent many years sharing her talent by providing classes and workshops to those wanting to learn how to paint.
She was a member of the Cape Breton Artist Association, the North Sydney Garden Club, St. Joseph Parish in North Sydney and in her younger years, was an avid golfer and curler.
Georgina is survived by her daughter, Linda (David) Lehrman, Gainesville, Florida; her son Joe Astephen, North Sydney; her three grandchildren, Rachel, Meredith, Jessica and great grandchildren, Carmen, Dodger and Calloway.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph Astephen, sister Margaret and brother John “Sonny” Schima.
There will be no visitation by request. A graveside committal service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Holy Cross Cemetery North Sydney, with Rev. Doug MacDonald officiating.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.
