Josephine Astephen  (1914 ~ 1990)

 

3. Third child of Abraham A. Astephen and Rose Balah, Josephine Barbara Astephen, was born April 25, 1914, in North Sydney, Nova Scotia. 

  She married Herman John Lambert Meers, son of Lambert Willem Meers and Marie Virginia Valerie Streel, December 23, 1941, in North Sydney, Nova Scotia and had four children:

• (3.2)  Joseph Herman  (1946 ~ 1996) 

• (3.3)  Valerie Jean  (1953 ~ 1953)

• (3.4)  David Edward  (1954 ~ )

 

  Josephine B. Astephen Meers died September 24, 1990, aged 76 years, and Herman J. Meers died November 22, 1976, aged 58 years in North Sydney, Nova Scotia and are interred at Lakeside Cemetery.

Josephine B. Astephen Meers

April 25, 1914 ~ September 24, 1990

Josephine Meers, 76, of 160 Queen Street, North Sydney, died Monday, September 24, 1990, at Sydney City Hospital.

  Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Abraham and Rose (Balah) Astephen. She was a member of St. Matthew Wesley United Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

  Mrs. Meers is survived by two sons: David, Halifax and Joseph, Vancouver, two brothers: Steve, North Sydney and Abe, Montreal and four sisters: Mrs. Rose Zukowski, Marge (Mrs. Clare Hilcox), both of Ontario, Mrs. Adele Barrette, Montreal, and three grandchildren.

  She was predeceased by her husband, John, a son, John, daughter, Valerie and her brother, Joseph.

  The body will be in the W. J. Dooley Funeral Home on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday in St. Matthew Wesley United Church, with Rev. Victor MacLeod officiating. The family requests donations to be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association. Cape Breton Post, Sept. 25, 1990.
